intro         = 'The players:  Andy & Ruth - White YJ, Shaun & wife - Blue TJ, Jeremy & Cara - Blue CJ, Kyle - Brown CJ, Oliver - White Tacoma, Jenn - Green TJ.  Saturday afternoon I met up with friends Andy and Ruth in the Gorge at a lovely little park popular with Windsurfers.  Ruth and I talked and watched Andy windsurf, and after a couple of hours the rest of the pack arrived from the Eugene area.  We then headed off towards Naches.  We arrived late in the day at Haus Creek Campground on the Tieton River, which is just east of Rimrock Lake.  We set up camp, got dinner, and after sitting around the fire for a while, we all crashed for the night.  We were up early-ish the next morning, loading and prepping the rigs.  All was going great, or so I thought, until I tried to shift my Atlas… and there wasn’t anyone home on the other end of the rear shift lever.   So I crawled underneath and discovered that the all-thread had come un-threaded.  It’s a royal PITA to get these lined up and rethreaded and you need two people to do it easily.  After trying for a while my arms were aching and I wasn’t getting it, so Andy crawled under with me and gave it a shot.  He was able to reach much better and managed to get it threaded back into position.  Once that was taken care of, we were ready to hit the road.  The nice things with camping at this particular campground are that there is a camp host to keep any eye on our stuff.  It has flush toilets and good water from a deep well.  It also is just minutes from where we exit off Highway 12 and onto the side roads.  Also, it takes reservations so we were assured of a campsite (or three) on a Saturday evening.  The area we ran in this trip for the most part is to the south of Rimrock Lake, between the lake and the rimrocks, and up onto the rim too.  Some pretty spectacular scenery and killer views of Mt Raineer, Mt Adams, and Mt Washington.  We may have even seen the top of Mt St Helens too.  I have no idea what all the trails were that we were on, only that most of them were black diamond (most difficult) and very, very tight for my rig.  It was mostly tight technical stuff, in the trees, in the rocks, and also nasty loose hill climbs in the rocks.  Not a whole lot of off camber, but what there was, was nasty.  For Naches, the dust wasn’t too bad, although it was quite dusty and miserable at times.  It’s usually much worse when we run in the area to the east of Hwy 410.  We all wheeled on Sunday and Monday, 6 rigs, 9 people, but on Tuesday Shaun and his wife had to head home.  Also Kyle was out of spare tires, so he rode with me for the day and left the CJ in camp.  So we were down to 4 rigs and 7 people.  No rig came home unscathed from this trip, although Oliver’s Tacoma and my TJ got the worst of it.  The Tacoma because of its longer length and my TJ due to its width with the wide tires I run.  Day one we got some good trails in, gave Shaun a run for his money.  After this trip he isn’t new to this sort of trail wheeling anymore – he was initiated in a big hurry.  Day two was a winch fest for most of us.   It seemed like every bridge was a slick and slimy trap for us.  And there were lots of bridges.  Day three was probably the prettiest scenery of the trip, also some of the tightest trees.  During the trip many of us crunched fenders or other body panels.  Kyle lost 2 tires to sidewall tears.  After checking my rig over, it seemed to me something was up with my steering.  Although it handled well, it just didn’t look quite right.  I stopped in to see my mechanic on the way home, and he confirmed that the front track bar is not supposed to have a bend like that in it (see pic on home page).  So, somewhere up there I managed to pretzel an RE Extreme Duty track bar.  I have not noticed any more damages at this time, other than the body panels and crunched fenders.  Oh, and I smooshed my winch controller cord, but it still seems to work (for now at least).  I also damaged both mirror mounts and have to figure out a new solution for those.  An expensive trip, but we had an absolute blast!  The trails there are wonderful, the company was great, and the weather cooperated to not be too horribly hot for late July.   <br>';
