New Years Eve 03 & New Years Day 04 OBH Snow Runs

There was snow, snow, snow, more snow, ice, freinds, a fire, fireworks, a dog, a trailer, snow, lots of stuck rigs, tons of fun, and did I mention the snow? =)

Everyone is probably tired and then working today to even respond! LOL. It was very fun, tons of snow and very challenging. There were 4 rigs for the night run. Chris Warren and friend, Jennifer Baker, Tim and Tasha, and me. There were 12 rigs for the day run but not sure who everyone was. I think just about everyone got stuck at least once except for Linh and Steph! Chris hauled my trailer up to 3 Corner Rock trailhead where we actually got some sleep from 4 AM to 8 AM. Then off we went wheeling all day long! It snowed all evening and then all day so getting the trailer back down was a little more challenging. Chris ended up chaining up his truck and the trailer and we just crawled down. Thank you soooooo much Todd for sticking with us and helping us out. I got home about 7:45 PM and was in bed by 9:00 PM! Slept in until 6:45 and had to get up and go to work. Darn it! Rather be out playing some more! Anyway, in my opinion, all in all, it was a very fun day. Now it is time to start thinking about the OBH Anniversary run! That is in Feb. isn't it? Happy New Year to everyone! Susie

It was a great time! The trailer was wonderful to have. Thanks Susie for letting us use it and to Chris for hauling the thing up there in the snow. Getting real sleep made it so much better than napping in the rigs!! For the day run there were lots of folks I either dont remember or had not met before. Unfortunitely I didnt get a chance to meet all of you this time either. Saw some folks I had not seen in a long time too. It was great. I would like to thank everyone for coming on both trips, and expecially to Chris and Keith for leading. Also for everyone for the helpfulness and patience with all the stucks. You guys really rock!! I do plan to get my electical looked at before the next run, so that my winch will be working. That was a not so nice suprise. =/ I had a nice uneventful drive home. 30 mph, on Hwy 14, had great control with only 8lbs of pressure in the swampers. I had to try to make it slide (or do something really stupid) - I know because I tried. After all the deep snow, the highway was a piece of cake. There was hardly any traffic at all. Got home before it got really dark too. The hill on Salmon Falls Road was fine - it was well sanded and everyone had been following the ruts, so it was nearly down to pavement. I got home and took a hot bath to get nice and warm, called a couple of freinds and then fell asleep on the couch for the night. LOL. I hope to get pictures on my site this weekend...I'll post when they are up. -jenn

I don't think there's an offical trail report writer. So I guess it's going to have to be a group effort to complete a report. Chris Warren, Jennifer Baker, Tim, Tasha, Susie, (and?) camped out there and did a bit of wheeling on new year eve, until Chris lost a bead. I was told it took them over an hour and a half to get that situated and got back to camp. The next morning, it started snowing early and the road got icy. We met up with Chris and the gang, and it started snowing heavily. Tired from the night before, and without a spare tire, Chris decided to take a break from the day. A quarter way in, Jenn's Jeep backend was sliding toward a ravine. So I drove into a ditch so she could anchor to me to winch out. The snow hid the ditch's true depth, so I nearly tipped my 4Runner over on its side. To make it worse, Jenn's winch failed to operate. (Speaking of which, I am about to graduate with my electronics degree<Hint-Hint:Job offer anyone?> and I can troubleshoot your wiring for you Jenn). Just get in touch with me to bring your Jeep over here. With the help of the guys, I managed to crawl out of the ditch under my own power without tipping over. Although, a roll over would have made this trip report alot more exciting :) There were quite a few other stucks and mishaps, feel free to add, delete, or edit the above mini report. Linh
